2 local channels off Dish Network

August 30, 2018

Dish Network says its customers can no longer receive two Fort Wayne TV channels.

Dish issued a statement Wednesday night saying Quincy Media blacked out Dish customers’ access to Quincy’s local channels in 13 markets across 21 states, including WPTA-TV, Channel 21, and WPTA2-TV, Channel 33.

“To be clear, Quincy chose to black out its own viewers. We offered an extension to keep the channels up while we reach a deal, but Quincy refused,” said Andy LeCuyer, senior vice president of programming for Dish. “Instead, Quincy chose to turn its back on its public interest obligations and use its viewers as bargaining chips.”

However, a statement posted Wednesday night on WPTA21.com said “ABC21 was dropped from Dish Network at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29.

“WPTA has been working on a new agreement with DISH for the past several months. We offered Dish five extensions to provide more time to complete a new agreement, but unfortunately, we could not agree to the demands Dish was requiring for a new agreement.”
