Ill. State’s Bojang Suffers Injury
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) _ Illinois State forward Baboucarr Bojang, the Redbirds’ MVP last season, was diagnosed Monday with a torn ligament in his right wrist that will keep him from playing basketball for up to six months.
The tear was discovered during arthroscopic surgery on the wrist, school officials said.
The 6-foot-9 Bojang, who averaged 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds last season as a junior, hurt the wrist Feb. 2 at Southwest Missouri State.
Pins were inserted in the wrist Monday, and Bojang was expected to be in a cast for three months before starting rehab. Bojang should be fully recovered by the opening of the 2002-03 season in November, ISU officials said.
``My initial priority is Boo’s well-being, and I’m pleased to say he’s doing fine after the surgery,″ coach Tom Richardson said.
