Exhibit showcases Miami-based Caribbean artists

December 16, 2013

MIAMI (AP) — A new exhibit in Miami’s Little Haiti is highlighting the work of Caribbean artists based in South Florida.

The exhibit at the Little Haiti Cultural Center is the fifth in a series showcasing contemporary art from the Caribbean. The artists have roots in Haiti, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Guadeloupe, Jamaica and Venezuela.

“Global Caribbean V: Focus on the Miami Contemporary Visual Arts Landscape” opened last week as an official satellite program of Art Basel Miami Beach. It’s curated by Miguel Rojas Sotelo of the Center for Latin American Caribbean Studies at Duke University.

The exhibit also includes a station to access the online exhibit “An Island Luminous,” featuring digitized Haitian books, manuscripts, newspapers and photographs. It’s hosted by the Digital Library of the Caribbean.
