PSP Made 406 DUI Arrests Over New Year’s Holiday
Pennsylvania State Police troopers arrested 406 people for driving under the influence during the four-day New Year’s holiday enforcement period from Saturday through Tuesday.
The arrests are an increase from the 284 DUI arrests made over the three-day New Year’s holiday weekend last year, a news release states.
Troopers investigated 642 crashes over the holiday period, compared to 1,169 last year. Of the collisions investigated, 64 involved alcohol, 155 people were injured and four people were killed. One of the fatal collisions involved alcohol.
State police Troop N, based in West Hazleton, reported investigating 37 crashes, five of which were alcohol-related, and making 23 DUI arrests. Troop L, which includes Schuylkill County, handled 41 crashes, three of them alcohol-related, and made 29 DUI arrests.
In addition to DUI enforcement, troopers statewide issued 6,370 speeding citations, 476 seat belt citations and 115 child safety seat citations.
These statistics only cover incidents investigated by state police and do not include those handled by municipal police and other law enforcement agencies.
