No. 16 Kansas 80, Iowa St. 69
AMES, Iowa (AP) _ Charisse Sampson scored eight straight points as No. 16 Kansas stormed back from a halftime deficit to beat Iowa State 80-69 in a Big Eight Conference women’s basketball opener Friday night.
Kansas (10-2) trailed 34-31 at halftime and was behind 38-35 early in the second half when Sampson hit two 3-pointers to push the Jayhawks in front 41-38.
After Iowa State (7-6) called a timeout, Sampson hit a short shot to pad the lead to 43-38 and Kansas never trailed again.
Sampson scored 12 of Kansas’ 15 points as the Jayhawks turned a 36-33 deficit into a 48-40 lead. She finished with 25 points and six rebounds. Teammate Angela Aycock had 24 points and seven rebounds.
Iowa State was led by Jayme Olson’s 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tawanya Herbert had 15 points for the Cyclones.
