NWS confirms tornado in Abbeville County

ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a tornado caused damage in Abbeville County in South Carolina.

News outlets report the EF1 tornado with 85 mph winds was part of a storm system Friday night.

The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado while surveying damage Saturday north of Abbeville from a severe thunderstorm. Multiple trees and power lines were blown down around 6:20 p.m. in the area of Pinehurst Street.

NWS officials say the storm touched down about 6:18 p.m. and was there until about 6:23 p.m. While there, it traveled 1.7 miles (2.7 kilometers) at a maximum path width of 75 yards (68.5 meters).

There were no fatalities or injuries.
