Spanish tourist killed during robbery in Brazil
SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazilian law enforcement officials say a Spanish tourist has been shot to death while resisting a holdup in the northeastern state of Bahia.
The state’s public safety department says Hugo Calavia Blanco was killed on Monday, hours after arriving in the capital city of Salvador from Ecuador.
He was with a Spanish friend who lives in Salvador when two armed men approached the car they were in and held them up. A press officer at the public safety department says the Spaniards “apparently resisted and the two gunmen shot them.” He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment on the case.
Calavia Blanco died instantly and his friend Alberto Aroz was wounded and rushed to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
