STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ Nykesha Sales led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points as No. 2 Connecticut clinched the Big East 6 Division with an 86-50 rout of St. John’s on Wednesday.
Sales, a senior, now has 2,149 points, passing Kara Wolters (2,141) as UConn’s second-leading scorer. She is 29 points shy of breaking Kerry Bascom’s all-time career scoring record set from 1988-91.
Svetlana Abrosimova and Amy Duran also had 16 points for the Huskies (26-2, 15-1 Big East). UConn has two regular season games left and needs to win just one to earn its fifth straight regular season league title.
Ebony Dickinson scored 11 points and had five steals for St. John’s (6-18, 4-12).
Abrosimova, a freshman from St. Petersburg, Russia, scored 16 points and needs eight points to pass Rebecca Lobo’s record 416 points scored as a freshman.
UConn jumped out to an early 13-2 lead, getting nine of those points off turnovers. The Red Storm turned the ball over 28 times, which led to 36 UConn points.
