NBA Star Joins Local Pickleball Enthusiasts At YMCA

Bill Wennington, winner of three NBA championships as a teammate of Michael Jordan, recently visited the Wilkes-Barre YMCA to play pickleball, one of the fastest growing sport in America. Pickleball is similar to tennis, except it is played on a smaller court with a wiffle ball and paddles. Lessons are given to beginners at 9 a.m. Saturdays at no charge. Unlike tennis, there is no need to make plans in advance with someone to play. Players can simply go to the courts and join in. First row, from left, are Peter Steele, Jane Steele, Bryon Scholl, Joe Kurtis, and Bob Thomas. Second row: Don Fritzges, Bonita Wadell, Chris Matthewson, Rob Krehely, Bill Wennington, Brenda Faber, George Price, Matt Gentile, Ryan Pollock and Jim Faber.
