BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) _ Alex Parker hit a floating jumper in the lane with 4.1 seconds left Monday night to give San Diego a 64-63 victory over Monmouth in the first round of the Buttrey Big Fresh Classic.

The Toreros (7-3) will play host Montana State in Tuesday night’s championship game. Monmouth (0-9) will play Mississippi Valley State.

San Diego led 35-24 at halftime, and extended its lead to 60-44 with 8:16 remaining. But the Hawks responded with a 19-2 run to take the lead in the game’s closing minutes.

Maurice Williams’ last-second shot for Monmouth hit the rim as time expired.

Ryan Williams paced the Toreros with 16 points. Parker and Brian Miles each scored 13.

Maurice Williams led all scorers with 17 points. Mike Perno and Gintas Veleita each added 12.
