Rothchild In Scranton Council Race
A physical therapist and well-known LGBTQ activist has announced her candidacy for Scranton City Council.
Jessica Rothchild, a Democrat, said she wants to build residents’ trust in city government and pledged to make the council more transparent and accessible. She also wants to promote the city’s affordable housing market and create incentives to retain Scranton’s younger residents, many of whom leave the area after college, according to the statement announcing her candidacy.
Rothchild, an elected Democratic state committeewoman, serves as secretary of the LGBT Caucus for the state Democratic Party. She’s also a member of the Scranton Human Relations Commission and the Pennsylvania Commission for Women. At the University of Scranton, she founded the school’s first student LGBTQ organization.
