Candidate Gets One Vote; His Wife Forgot to Vote
DECORAH, Iowa (AP) _ It won’t be hard for Daniel Kirkeby to thank everyone who voted for him in his bid to become a county supervisor. He got one vote _ his own.
His wife said she was busy watching their three children and forgot to vote.
``I feel guilty about it,″ Regina Kirkeby said. ``I apologized over and over to my husband. He would have made a good supervisor.″
Kirkeby, a self-employed mechanic, was one of eight candidates seeking the Republican nomination for the seat in Winneshiek County, in the northeast corner of the state. Michael Bergan was the top vote-getter Tuesday with 249 votes.
``I guess I didn’t have the backing of the people with the money,″ Kirkeby said.
