ASHLAND - Several folks participated in the second annual Gravy Bowl at the Ashland Train Depot on Saturday.

The Gravy Bowl featured sample-sized biscuit and gravy dishes from seasoned pros and home cookin’ all-stars.

Hosted by Ashland In Motion, the annual biscuit and gravy competition consisted of three contests. There was the country gravy, which is rich and creamy with no meats, then the sawmill gravy with all the meats, and finally the freestyle gravy in which anything goes.

There were two skill level categories, starting with “Seasoned Pros,” or contestants can choose the level of “Homecookin’ All Star.” Contestants were judged on taste, originality and presentation. The winner from each division received a trophy. The participating team that displays the most spirit and best dcor was awarded the “Biscuit Blitz Award.”

One gravy making connoisseur was selected by the public for the “People’s Choice Award.” Last year’s “People’s Choice Award” winner was Clark’s Pump-N-Shop.

This year’s award winners were not available by the newspaper’s deadline Saturday.

The event also featured live music by Moonshine Crossing and The Sugarbeats.

Proceeds from the event go toward benefiting future Ashland In Motion events as well as helping with revitalization.
