Gorilla gives birth to 4th baby at Boston Franklin Park Zoo
BOSTON (AP) — A western lowland gorilla named Kiki has given birth to her fourth baby at Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo.
The baby was born Thursday and made its first public appearance Friday inside the zoo’s tropical forest building. The baby has not yet been named and its gender is unknown.
Jeannine Jackle, an assistant curator at the Franklin Park Zoo, says the baby appears to be strong, healthy and alert.
She says workers used an over-the-counter pregnancy test to confirm that Kiki was expecting and they had predicted a May birth. The baby is expected to be a part of the daily gorilla exhibit.
It’s Kiki’s fourth baby with her mate Kitombe. They’re among the zoo’s seven western lowland gorillas, which are native to several African countries and are considered endangered.
