Bus Drivers Raise Stink Over Reeking Horse Riders

January 12, 1996

OSLO, Norway (AP) _ Bus drivers are raising a stink over horse-crazy teen-age girls who smell bad.

``Manure and the smell of horses stick to the seats, and our buses are brand new,″ Henry Gaarde of the NSB bus company told Norway’s largest newspaper, Verdens Gang. ``Other passengers complain.″

The problem of reeking riders is especially foul on one route that passes a stable on the outskirts of Oslo.

Bus drivers had a two-hour meeting to clear the air and decided to ask the horse riders to take off their soiled riding gear before boarding their vehicles.

``We’ll see how it goes,″ said Gaarde. ``Hopefully, the girls will change their clothes. Then the problem is solved.″

Stable manager Ivar Bakke said, ``If things have gone so far that they begin to classify people by smell, something is very wrong.″

Verdens Gang said, simply: ``The whole thing stinks.″
