PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Reliever Turk Wendell, who hasn’t pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies this season because of tendinitis in his right elbow, likely will have surgery and miss at least three more months.
Wendell experienced pain in his elbow after throwing from the mound Tuesday, and will get a second opinion from a doctor in New York later this week.
``Ninety percent of pitchers who have this operation get back to the way they were,″ Phillies team physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti said. ``The ligament is OK. It’s tendinitis in the elbow that has to be removed.″
Wendell struggled after coming to the Phillies from the New York Mets last July. He was 0-2 with a 7.47 ERA in 21 games for Philadelphia.
