MENDOZA, Argentina (AP) _ Brad Pitt says his sex-symbol status is slowing him down.
Dozens of teen-agers turned out Tuesday to catch a glimpse of Pitt, who’s in this Andean province with director Jean-Jacques Anneaud to shoot scenes for his upcoming film, ``Seven Years in Tibet.″
``People here are very sweet, but there are times when I need to concentrate,″ said Pitt, who starred in ``Seven″ and ``Twelve Monkeys.″ ``Being a sex symbol all the time hampers my work.″
Anneaud was more direct: ``Please stop following him around.″
In ``Seven Years in Tibet,″ Pitt plays a man who undergoes profound changes when he climbs the Himalayas and meets the Dalai Lama.
AGOURA HILLS, Calif. (AP) _ Kelsey Grammer flipped his sports car just outside his driveway and was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence.
The ``Frasier″ star wrecked his red Dodge Viper on Saturday night, police said. Grammer, the only person in the car, was treated for a cut on his forehead and bumps and bruises.
Grammer, who was arrested at the hospital, was not charged, pending the results of a blood test, Sgt. David Rouse said. Driving under the influence could involve alcohol or drugs.
Grammer has been in trouble with the law before, including convictions for drunken driving and cocaine possession.
In 1995, authorities in Arizona decided not to prosecute Grammer for statutory rape, and a New Jersey grand jury declined to indict him on the same charge. Both accusations were made by the same 17-year-old girl.
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Muhammad Ali used his fame to focus attention on the first national study of minorities with Parkinson’s disease.
Ali, who has the disease, attended a news conference Tuesday where Pharmacia & Upjohn said it hoped the study will bolster minority participation in clinical trials for new treatment.
``We noticed that the minority population in those trials was only about 2 to 3 percent, whereas the overall Parkinson’s population is about 35 percent minority,″ said Jack Jackson, a senior vice president for Pharmacia & Upjohn, which will conduct the study with the Parkinson Study Group.
The heavyweight boxing legend, whose speech is slurred because of Parkinson’s, didn’t speak at the event but was honored for his battle against the disease.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Colonel Sanders kept several spicy secrets _ and they have nothing to do with his famous chicken recipe.
Harland Sanders, the KFC founder, had a mistress and even persuaded his wife to hire the woman to ``help with the housework,″ the Colonel’s oldest daughter, Margaret Sanders, writes in her new book ``The Colonel’s Secret: Eleven Herbs and a Spicy Daughter.″
``The peace of our whole family was altered by their affair,″ the book says. ``Mother refused to accept that she alone could not satisfy Father’s physical needs, which from the very beginning of their marriage had seemed excessive to her.″
Later, she writes, the Colonel divorced his wife and married the mistress _ and then took both women to a presidential inauguration in Washington.
The book includes photos and anecdotes, including the time the Colonel spotted a hard-working employee at an Indianapolis restaurant and predicted the kid would be a big success.
He was right. The kid was Dave Thomas, who later founded Wendy’s and, like Sanders, starred in his own ads.
MARBELLA, Spain (AP) _ And baby makes three.
Stella del Carmen Banderas Griffith was born Tuesday in this coastal resort to Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas. The baby weighed 5.7 pounds.
Banderas, who is from the nearby city of Malaga, met Griffith on the Florida set of the film ``Two Much.″ The actors were married in May.
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Chuck Woolery is recovering from quadruple heart bypass surgery.
Woolery, perhaps best known as the host of the TV dating show ``Love Connection,″ was in good condition following the operation Monday.
Woolery, 56, is the co-host of the Family Channel’s cable talk show ``Home & Family″ with Cristina Ferrare.
``It was a success. He’s fine,″ Lisa Bernfeld, spokeswoman for ``Home & Family,″ said Tuesday.
She said he’ll be out of the hospital in about four days.
