Autistic boy survives 41-meter fall from cliff into gorge

March 19, 2015

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a 7-year-old autistic boy has survived a 135-foot (41-meter) fall from a cliff into a gorge at an Ohio park.

Andrew Nickol’s paternal grandmother said Thursday that he is hospitalized with a broken pelvis, broken hand and extensive bruising.

Charlotte Nickol says the boy was staying with his mother and maternal grandmother at a home in the Akron suburb of Cuyahoga Falls when he disappeared at about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Cuyahoga Falls police say the boy fell down an 85-degree slope at nearby Gorge Metro Park and was found near the bank of the Cuyahoga River.

Charlotte Nickol says her grandson doesn’t talk and can’t tell them what happened.
