OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Veteran free agent pitcher Tom Candiotti today signed a two-year contract with the Oakland Athletics, with an option for a third season.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Candiotti, 40, spent the last six years of his 14-year major league with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He began his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, then spent some time in the minors before moving to the Cleveland Indians for the 1986 season.

He won 72 games over 5 1/2 seasons with the Indians before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in June 1991. He moved to Los Angeles in 1992 and won 52 games for the Dodgers, with a 10-7 record and a 3.60 ERA last season.

Candiotti has a lifetime record of 136-142, with a 3.52 ERA.
