Sutherlin uses strong first half to get past Creswell

CRESWELL — The Sutherlin girls basketball team pulled off a gutsy 40-36 win on the road against Creswell on Tuesday.

The visiting Bulldogs overcame several injuries and late foul trouble to defeat the Bulldogs of Creswell.

Freshman Sierra Nielsen scored 13 points for Sutherlin (6-5). Sutherlin relied heavily on freshmen with Nielsen, Kaley Kuxhausen and Tianna Murphy playing major minutes due to injuries and foul trouble. Junior Carmen Ganger stood out as a defensive rebounder late in the game and scored seven points to help Sutherlin pull off the win.

Creswell (5-4) was led by Bailey Howell with 19 points.

Sutherlin will play Harrisburg in the Elmira Tournament on Friday.
