Lions Take Second in Division 1

BOSTON -- The Chelmsford High boys capped off a fantastic season with a second-place finish Sunday at the Division 1 state swim meet at Boston University.

St. John’s Prep won with 240 points.

Chelmsford followed with 169.5. Rounding out the top teams were Natick (147), Westford Academy (133), Needham (130) and Westfield (109).

Junior Aaron Zhu captured the 200 IM in 1 minute, 53.33 seconds and placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 57.87.

Senior captain Ben Cote was also superb, finishing in the top four in two individual events.

Cote claimed third in the 100 butterfly (52.19) and took fourth in the 200 IM (1:56.55).

Freshman Connor Quirbach was third in the 100 free in 48.39 and collected fifth in the 200 free in 1:46.26.

Chelmsford was second in the 200 medley relay (1:38.96) thanks to Colm Sheerin, Zhu, Cote and Quirbach. The Lions were also second in the 400 freestyle relay. Cote, Jimmy Shaw, Quirbach and Zhu finished in 3:15.23.

Junior Connor Young was the other point scorer for the Lions with a tie for 13th in the 500 free.

Westford

Owen Schwab led the way for the Grey Ghosts with a fifth-place finish in the 500 free at 4:49.17 and an eighth-place finish in the 200 free in 1:46.48.

Schwab also teamed up with Bryce Fan, Jerry Xu and Sam Granger for a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:31.48.

Matt Song posted sevenths in the 200 IM (2:00.38) and 100 fly (53.86).

The 200 medley relay team of Song, Alex Jefferson, Xu and Fan placed eighth in 1:43.32.

Song, Granger, Braeden Ledder and Schwab combined for a ninth-place finish in the 400 free relay in 3:21.83.

Xu placed 10th in the 100 fly in 54.28 and Fan was 10th in the 100 back in 1:01.31.

Fan was 15th in the 50 free in 22.69.
