Packers Sign John Thierry
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ Defensive end John Thierry, a former first-round draft pick and the sacks leader for the Cleveland Browns last season, signed with the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday.
Thierry, 6--foot-4, 265 pounds, was the 11th player taken when drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1994. He went to Cleveland as a free agent a year ago and had a career-high seven sacks last season, starting the final seven games.
``He will add speed and quickness, as well as quality, to our defensive line,″ Packers general manager Ron Wolf said. ``I am pleased that we were able to add a player of his assets to our defense.″
Thierry played in all 16 games in five of his six pro seasons. The exception was in 1997 when a knee injury Nov. 2 sidelined him for the rest of the season.
