Indians don’t think Salazar is tipping pitches

April 23, 2014

CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians manager Terry Francona doesn’t believe struggling starter Danny Salazar is tipping his pitches.

Salazar (0-3) brought up the possibility he was giving away his pitches following Monday night’s loss to Kansas City. The right-hander was chased in the fifth inning, dropping him to 1-7 in 14 starts since he won his major league debut in July.

Francona said he was suprised to hear Salazar’s comments and doesn’t think Salazar is doing anything other than leaving some pitches over the plate.

Salazar began last season in Double-A but soared through Cleveland’s system and started the AL wild-card game against Tampa Bay. He has been dominant at times this season but struggled the second time through a batting order.

Francona said the Indians have no plans to demote Salazar, who held the Royals without a hit through three innings before giving up a three-run homer to Mike Moustakas in the fourth.
