ENDANGERED WOLVES-ILLEGAL KILLINGS

RALEIGH, N.C. — Illegal killings and longstanding political resistance have undercut the return of two species of endangered wolves to the wild, frustrating government efforts that already cost more than $80 million but have failed to meet recovery targets. The number of red wolves roaming the forests of North Carolina has plunged to fewer than three dozen in recent years — the most precarious position of any U.S. wolf species. UTAH SHOOTING-ARMED SUSPECT

BOISE _ The Latest on a Utah shooting and Idaho manhunt (all times local):

A southern Idaho sheriff is warning residents near a manhunt for a shooting suspect to keep their doors locked and be wary of strangers. State and local law enforcement officers were still searching Cassia County early Thursday afternoon for 45-year-old Jonathan Llana, whom they consider a suspect in the shooting death of a Salt Lake City man.
