Jonas scores a hat trick as Benfica beats Nacional 4-1
LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Jonas scored a hat trick Monday to help Benfica beat Nacional 4-1 in a postponed Portuguese league match.
The Brazilian striker gave his team the lead in the 23rd minute before Francisco Soares equalized early in the second half. Jonas then added another two goals and Konstantinos Mitroglou scored the fourth with a minute to play.
Halfway through the season, Jonas is the league’s top scorer with 18 goals in 17 games. Benfica is also the highest-scoring team with 45 goals.
The victory, which came after Sunday’s match had to be stopped because of fog, put Benfica back in second place, level with FC Porto on 40 points. Sporting Lisbon leads with 44 points.
