VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ Nick Van Exel, who missed a month with a right knee injury, was activated by the Los Angeles Lakers before Sunday's game against the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Van Exel has back spasms but was expected to play some limited minutes.

The guard underwent diagnostic arthroscopic surgery after he hurt his knee in a Feb. 15 game against Houston.

To make room for Van Exel, who owns the NBA's best assist-to-turnover ratio and averages a team-high 7.7 assists per game, the Lakers placed guard Shea Seals (back spasms) on the injured list.

The Lakers were 9-4 with Van Exel out of the lineup.
