Charter school flap ends with settlement in Maine

April 9, 2013

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — An ousted executive from a proposed charter school has reached a settlement with the board of directors, ending legal action over the Baxter Academy for Technology and Sciences.

Former Executive Director John Jaques said the settlement, which is confidential, settles all disputes including alleged financial mismanagement. After his firing, Jaques initially refused to relinquish control of the school’s website. The internal dispute led to a suit and counter-suit.

Kelli Pryor, chair of the Baxter Board, said all parties are pleased to move on.

This week, the Maine Charter School Commission put the school on track to open this fall by allowing final details of a contract to be hammered out. A final vote is likely next month.
