Roseburg history forgotten again

August 11, 2018

Another important anniversary has come and gone without any recognition by the local media.

On August 7, 1959, Roseburg experienced its largest disaster in history with what has become known as “The Blast.” Millions of dollars of property damage and the loss of 13 lives occurred when a truck full of explosives detonated on Pine Street.

One would think this is something that the media would want to at least mention. Perhaps the 59th anniversary of Roseburg’s most devastating disaster lacks news worthiness, or they simply forgot? Will we ever know?
