Police Arrest Fugitive Mental Patient in Boy’s Death
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) _ A convicted killer who was a fugitive from a Belgian mental clinic was arrested in the fatal stabbing of a 10-year-old boy.
The man, convicted in 1979 of strangling a prostitute, last year failed to report to the clinic after a period of leave, said city police spokesman Leo Detering.
Early Friday, the man called police and said a boy collapsed on his doorstep after ringing the bell, Detering said. Police found the boy dead with a knife in his abdomen.
In line with Dutch police practice, Detering refused to identify either the 41-year-old suspect or the slain boy.
The man was arrested after police observed him behaving strangely, then found his name on a wanted list, Detering said.
