CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) — Americans Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner share the lead at 9-under par heading into the final round of the British Open. Spieth is trying to become the first back-to-back British Open champion in 10 years, while Schauffele and Kisner are going for their first victory in a major. Another American, Kevin Chappell, is alone in fourth place, two shots behind after a 67.
CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) — Tiger Woods is in a tie for sixth place at the British Open after shooting a 66 in the third round. He’s bunched with six other players including Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood. Woods is trying for his first major title in 10 years.
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Brittany Lincicome (LIHN’-sih-kohm) has missed the cut at the Barbasol Championship after shooting a 1-under 71. She was trying to become the first female golfer since 1945 to make the cut in a PGA Tour event. The eight-time LPGA Tour winner with two major titles was the first woman since Michelle Wie in 2008 to play in a PGA Tour event. Lincicome had sought to join Babe Zaharias as the only women to make the cut.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Clayton Kershaw makes his first start after the All-Star break when the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers face the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. The left-hander is 5-4 with a 2.95 ERA in 12 career starts against Milwaukee. Right-hander Chase Anderson gets the ball for the Brewers. Anderson is winless in three July starts with a 1.65 ERA.
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Michael Stich and Helena Sukova have been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. They were enshrined today in a ceremony outside the hall in Newport, Rhode Island. Stich won Wimbledon in 1991 and a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in doubles with German countryman Boris Becker. Sukova captured 14 Grand Slam doubles crowns — nine in women’s, five in mixed.
