Havasu gathers for city’s annual community dinner
Hundreds of Lake Havasu City residents gathered Friday evening to celebrate an evening of community, festivity and companionship.
The Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center hosted this year’s Annual Community Dinner, which offered traditional holiday items including turkey, ham, stuffing, potatoes, vegetables and pie. The event held two seatings, one at 4 p.m. and another at 6 p.m., with nearly 1,000 guests in attendance combined.
“This amazing event brings the community together during the holiday season, where the city can come and enjoy fellowship with each other,” said Lake Havasu City Mayor Cal Sheehy. “A lot of local businesses contributed, and a lot of volunteers pitched in to make this happen. It’s a labor of love for our community.”
The event offered visits with Santa Claus, and gifts offered courtesy of the River Riders Toy Run. Anderson Auto Group sponsored free photography for hundreds of visitors.
Sheehy and other city officials served the food, which was offered by local businesses for the event.
“There were more than 500 people in the first seating alone,” said Lake Havasu CIty Councilwoman Jeni Coke. “It’s something for all ages. It’s not denominational, it’s not religious - it’s a community celebration.”
Lake Havasu City Councilman David Lane enjoys the community dinner as one of Havasu’s most festive annual events.
“There are a lot of really nice people here, and they’re very appreciative,” Lane said. “This is one of the best events of the year, and we get to interact with so many people in the community. We literally get to say ‘hi’ to everyone who walks by.”
Sponsors for the event included Albertsons, Alsco Linens, Anderson Auto Group, Basha’s, Culver’s, Food City, Pepsi, Picture Perfect Photography, Safeway, Shamrock Foods, Shugrue’s, Smith’s Food and Drug and Walmart.
