Jarmilla Hanis, 80 of Bruno, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Bryan LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bruno, with the Rev. Ron Homes, celebrant. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, with a 7 p.m. rosary, all at Kracl Funeral Chapel in David City. Visitation will continue for one hour before Mass on Wednesday at the church. Committal will be in Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Appleton. Lunch will follow committal at St. Anthony’s Church Hall. Memorials are suggested to family choice or Masses.

Jarmilla was born Jan. 25, 1939, in David City, to Anton L. and Helen (Pokorny) Sabata. She attended a rural country school near her home, later attended David City High School for two years, and graduated from Marietta High School in 1957. On April 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Joe A. Hanis at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in David City. She lived her entire married life with Joe on the farm east of Bruno, where they farmed and raised livestock side by side. Jarmilla was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Plasi, and a member of the Plasi Altar Society.

Jarmilla is survived by her husband, Joe of Bruno; daughters and son-in-law, Deb (Kirk) Marushak of Bruno, Connie Scholz of Bellwood; grandchildren, Brad (Hanna) Marushak of Ceresco, Jenny (Mark) Polacek of David City, Tiffany (Sam) Sedlacek of Wahoo, Nicole (Anthony) Zimmer of Lincoln, Cody Scholz of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Colin and Miles Marushak, (great-grandchild expected in July), Noah and Levi Polacek, Addison Sedlacek, Alexander and Evey Jo Zimmer; sister, Bernie (Jerry) Tuma of Schuyler; sister-in-law, Marce Sabata of David City.

She was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Sylvester and John Sabata; sisters, Tillie(Ernie) Coufal, Mildred (Frank) Mastera, Rose Jisa and Beatrice Sabata.
