Cardiff Middle School salutes veterans

November 18, 2018

Cardiff Middle School hosted a Nov. 8 program for seventh-graders and veteran friends or relatives of the students.

Katy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9182 Commander Don Byrne spoke about the origin and history of Veterans Day and the need to keep young in touch with the past. Sr. Vice Commander Tony Hart addressed the need for organizations like the VFW and how they provide service to all veterans and their families.

Certificates of Appreciation for Service in a combat zone were awarded to Capt. Jonathan Mears for his service in Afghanistan and Korea and Sgt. Brandon Kash for his service in Afghanistan. They were also awarded a free one-year membership to the VFW. The students were ecstatic to see two of their teachers recognized.

Joining in the program were the Mayde Creek High School JROTC and the Cardiff men’s and women’s choirs.
