Air Force Plane Down in Western Louisiana
MANY, La. (AP) _ An Air Force A-10A Thunderbolt II attack plane crashed in woods in western Louisiana durinng a combat training mission Thursday, killing the pilot, England Air Force Base officials said.
The plane went down around 1:30 p.m. in rural Sabine Parish between the towns of Negreet and Florien, state police said.
The pilot was identified as 1st Lt. Michael N. Ayotte, 24, of Bexar County, Texas. Ayotte was attached to the 75th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing at the central Louisiana air base, an Air Force news release said.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. The Air Force said the crash would be investigated.
