Player of the week

Ariana Martinez, Holmes: sophomore, first baseman — In nine plate appearances in District 28-6A wins over Jay and Taft, she had three home runs, including a grand slam, two triples, two doubles, 10 RBIs and seven runs.

Game balls

Southwest’s Alexis Obregon tossed a four-hit shutout and had 12 strikeouts as the Dragons defeated No. 6 Medina Valley to move into first place in District 28-5A.

New Braunfels’ Mya Hall racked up a combined 23 strikeouts and allowed only two earned runs as the Unicorns upended No. 4 East Central and No. 8 Judson to move into a tie for second place in District 26-6A.

Navarro’s Alyssa Hernandez went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs as the Panthers topped La Vernia to captured the District 30-4A championship.
