Beverly man accused of assaulting baby son
SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A Beverly father has been held without bail after being charged with slapping his 11-month-old son so hard he left hand imprints on the baby’s face.
Christopher Van Horn was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for next week after pleading not guilty Thursday in Salem District Court to charges of assault and battery on a child with injuries and child endangerment.
Prosecutors say the 29-year-old Van Horn grabbed the baby by the face Wednesday and slapped him at least five times. The child was brought to the hospital.
The assault was allegedly witnessed by Van Horn’s 3-year-old stepdaughter and heard by the girl’s biological father, who reported it to police.
The Salem News (http://bit.ly/PXN1yC ) reports that Van Horn’s lawyer said his client denies the charges.
