WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) _ Dale Hawerchuk scored a power-play goal at 2:15 of overtime Friday night to give the Winnipeg Jets a 3-2 NHL victory over the Washington Capitals.

With Washington's Greg Adams off for tripping, Hawerchuk came out from behind the Capitals' net and wrapped a shot in around goaltender Clint Malarchuk.

The Capitals trailed 2-0 late in the third period before goals by Dave Christian and Dale Hunter in a 21-second span tied the game.

Christian, a former Jet, broke up Pokey Reddick's shutout bid with a power- play goal at 16:27. Hunter tied the game at 16:48.

After a scoreless first period, Paul MacLean gave Winnipeg a power-play goal at 4:37, banging in his own rebound.

Doug Smail made it 2-0 at 6:29 of the third period.

Reddick was brillant in making 29 saves. In the third period, he stopped Bengt Gustafsson, Larry Murphy and Rod Langway on excellent scoring opportunities.

Malarchuk made 34 saves for the Capitals, who lost for only the second time in their last seven games. Their 6-4 record leaves them tied for first place in the Patrick Division with the New Jersey Devils. Winnipeg improved its record to 5-4 in the Smythe Division.

Washington assistant coach Terry Murray was behind the bench for the game. Coach Bryan Murray sat out the second game of a three-game suspension for an Oct. 11 altercation with linesman Ron Asselstine in Buffalo.
