Eight players will represent Mallards in All-Star Game
The Madison Mallards will be sending a sizable portion of their roster to the Northwoods League All-Star Game.
It was announced Friday morning that eight players — the most from any team in the 20-team league — will represent the Mallards on the South Division team at the annual amateur baseball event July 24 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Selected for the game were utility player Jake Randa (.331 batting average, 36 RBIs), third baseman Tyler Plantier (.313 BA, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs), middle infielder Trevor Schwecke (.331 BA, 15 stolen bases), infielder David Vinsky (.296 BA, 31 RBIs), outfielder Drew Campbell (.318 BA), closer Trace Norkus (2-1, 0.45 ERA, 10 saves), reliever Carson Ragsdale (2.03 ERA, 29 strikeouts in 17º innings) and starter Dalton Wiggins ( 4-1, 1.63 ERA).
Madison manager Donnie Scott and assistants Matt LaMothe and Chance Sugg will coach the South because the Mallards won the first-half title.
Friday’s night’s game against the Lakeshore Chinooks was postponed due to heavy rain that began in the bottom of the second inning at Warner Park.
The Mallards held a 1-0 lead when rain forced the game to be delayed and eventually postponed to 4 p.m. Tuesday.
