Dow Moves Up 15 to 9940.25

NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices started narrowly mixed on Wall Street Monday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average creeped ahead 15 points to 9940.25

Decliners outnumbered advancers by about 7-to-6 on the New York Stock Exchange.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is down two points and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index added a fraction.

Wall Street is coming off a week in which stocks fell for much of the holiday-shortened trading week.

Analysts say a number of external worries, from international tensions to accounting worries, have kept investors on the skittish side.

A key report on activity in the manufacturing sector for May is due this morning, at 10 a.m. EDT. The report could provide investors with a clearer picture of the economic outlook.

Among stocks to watch, Tyco International’s chairman and C-E-O has resigned, amid reports he’s facing a criminal investigation.
