MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) _ A white teen-ager convicted of murder in the beating death of a black man was sentenced Friday to 25 years to 50 years in prison. An accomplice convicted of assault got two to four years.

Chuckie Gibson, 19, of Detroit was fatally beaten Sept. 8 after a racial confrontation with a carload of whites. After a racial slur was yelled at him, he replied and threw a bottle at the car.

The car emptied and a scuffle broke out. Gibson was beaten by Raymond Morris Jr. with a flashlight while John Whitman held Gibson down, prosecutors said. He died about two days later.

Morris, 18, of Fraser, was convicted in May of second-degree murder. Whitman, 19, of Roseville was convicted of felony assault.
