Bacon Receives Hemingway Award

BOSTON (AP) _ A Connecticut author is the latest recipient of the Ernest Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award, a $7,500 prize for distinguished first works of fiction.

Charlotte Bacon received the award Sunday for her book ``A Private State: Stories.″ Patrick Hemingway, son of the Nobel Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway, presented her with the prize at a ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.

Arthur Miller, author of ``The Crucible″ and the Pulitzer Prize-winning ``Death of a Salesman,″ was the event’s keynote speaker.

The award was begun in 1976 by the late Mary Hemingway, the writer’s widow, to draw attention to works of fiction.
