Police: Employee’s Ex-Boyfriend Takes Hostages, Kills Self at Epcot
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) _ The ex-boyfriend of a Walt Disney World employee fired a shotgun at guards and took two hostages before fatally shooting himself inside Epcot Center, a sheriff’s spokesman said Sunday.
Allen J. Ferris, 37, of Rochester, N.Y., lingered in the park after it closed Saturday night. When guards told him to leave, he fired four shots at them and briefly held two of the guards in a restroom, said Orange County Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Solomons.
Ferris then released the guards and emerged to confront a circle of deputies, who ordered him to drop his 12-gauge shotgun, Solomons said.
″He replied, ’no, just shoot me, shoot me. You’re going to have to kill me,‴ Solomons said.
Ferris then shot himself in the head, Solomons said. He was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Ferris had tried to kill himself in July after the woman ended their relationship of eight years, Solomons said. He was under a court order to avoid the woman.
Ferris never got to see his ex-girlfriend. Solomons would not identify her.
