2nd teen charged in fatal Springfield shooting
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A second teenager has pleaded not guilty to murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Springfield last month that police say was a botched drug robbery.
Seventeen-year-old Matthew Hastings was held without bail after his arraignment Thursday on charges including murder by joint venture and conspiracy.
Hastings, of Ludlow, was charged as an adult and arraigned in adult court because of the nature of the allegations. His lawyer did not comment.
A 16-year-old youth has already pleaded not guilty to similar charges and police are searching for a third suspect.
They are charged in connection with the March 26 death of 20-year-old Jeffrey Freitas, of Ludlow, who was found dead in a car in the city’s North End neighborhood last Saturday.
