INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Peter Kormann, former Olympic bronze medalist and coordinator for the USA Gymnastics men’s national team since 1996, will coach the U.S team in the 2000 Olympics.
Kormann, 44, of Columbus, Ohio, was selected coach by the sport’s national governing body, subject to approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
``My goal for the team is to bring home a medal,″ said Kormann, who became the first U.S. gymnast since 1932 to win an Olympic medal when he took the bronze in the floor exercise at the 1976 Games in Montreal.
Kormann coached at Navy from 1983-88 and Ohio State from 1989-96 before joining USA Gymnastics as national team coordinator.
``This group of men is talented and experienced, and they are ready to show the world that the U.S. is a top contender,″ he said.
