Penguins Reassign Fleury to AHL
PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was sent to Wilkes Barre/Scranton on Monday in time for the AHL playoffs.
Fleury, 19, began the season with the Penguins, appearing in 21 games with a 4-14-2 record. He had a 3.64 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage before being shipped to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, partly because the Penguins couldn’t afford to pay him $3 million in contract incentives.
In December, Fleury was loaned to Canada’s team for the World Junior Championships. He appeared in five games, and Canada finished second.
Wilkes Barre/Scranton opens a best-of-seven playoff series against Bridgeport on Thursday.
