EACS able to reach deal with bus drivers
Bus drivers in East Allen County Schools have a new contract in place for the new year.
During a midday meeting at New Haven Middle School, the school board Tuesday approved a two-year contract with the EACS Transportation Association beginning Jan. 1.
For 2019, the hourly rate for new hires will be 18.28 on Jan. 1, 2020.
As in previous years, drivers will be awarded for their longevity with the district.
The contract calls for a raise in their hourly rate on their first anniversary. Rates are 20.65 in 2020, up from $19.65 in 2018.
Drivers will get additional compensation per day once they are with East Allen four years. Those with four to nine years’ experience will receive an extra 1 in 2018, and 3.89 and $4.89 extra per day in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
East Allen employs 81 regular route drivers and 10 substitute drivers, among other transportation staff, according to information provided to the board last month. At that time, the district operated 105 daily bus routes.
In other business, the board approved Etica Group as its architect/engineer firm for the following summer projects: asphalt and cement work at the EACS Service Center and Cedarville Elementary School; roofing at Cedarville and Heritage Junior-Senior High School; and replacement of the junior high bleachers at Leo Junior-Senior High School.
Fixed fees for the projects total $27,720.
