Golfer’s Son Indicted for Robbery

December 10, 1999

LAS VEGAS (AP) _ The son of two-time U.S. Open golf champion Billy Casper was indicted on charges he robbed a downtown bar and possessed a short-barrel shotgun and numerous drugs.

David James Casper, 26, who also is suspected in a string of up to 30 San Diego robberies, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday. He remains in the Clark County Detention Center on $250,000 bail.

Casper, arrested Nov. 11 by Las Vegas police officers who were pursuing the robbers of a bar, was indicted Tuesday.

The targeting of Casper came after San Diego police alerted Las Vegas police he might be in Las Vegas and is wanted in California on parole violation and robbery charges.

Casper was arrested by shotgun-wielding officers, but not before police said he reached for a concealed handgun and might have been intending to use it. Police said the shotgun, another handgun and drugs were found in his room.

Two others _ Francisco Beruman, 36, and Lisa Llames, 26, both of Chula Vista, Calif. _ were arrested for possession of stolen property as they walked down the stairs from a second-story room.
