Connecticut Ballet holding auditions for “The Nutcracker”

STAMFORD — The Connecticut Ballet will hold open auditions for children’s roles in its upcoming production of “The Nutcracker” on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Connecticut Ballet Center at 20 Acosta Street in Stamford.

The Connecticut Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” is an annual tradition in downtown Stamford and features guest stars from the American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet, as well as the Connecticut Ballet’s professional corps de ballet and over 125 children and adult character performers. Rehearsals start in late October and performances are Dec. 15 at The Palace Stamford Center for the Arts.

Both boys and girls are encouraged to try out. Prior dance experience is helpful, but not necessary. Children should arrive at the following times to audition, based on their age and ability: Children ages four to five from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.; ages five-and-a-half to six-and-a-half from 2 p.m. to 2:45p.m.; ages six-and-a-half to seven-and-a-half from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.; ages eight to ten from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.; ages ten-and-a-half to twelve from 5:15 p..m. to 6:15 p.m. and ages 13 and up from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled audition time. Hair should be tied back and proper dance gear is required.
