Macy Expects To Rebuild Wrecked California Store
NEW YORK (AP) _ R.H. Macy & Co. Inc. said Thursday it expects to rebuild its Bullock’s department store in the Northridge Fashion Center, which was destroyed in last week’s earthquake in Southern California.
The retailer is ″discussing plans with the developer to build a replacement store,″ said Jim Fingeroth, an employee of the public relations firm Kekst & Co., who acts as a spokesman for Macy.
Macy is also rebuilding a heavily damaged Bullock’s in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and a damaged I. Magnin specialty store.
The quake, whose epicenter was in Northridge, also destroyed or damaged department stores owned by J.C. Penney Co. Inc., Carter Hawley Hale Stores Inc. and May Department Stores Inc. Hundreds of other stores suffered damage.
Many of the damaged department stores remain closed.
