SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Williams-Sonoma Inc. (WSM) on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $51.7 million.

On a per-share basis, the San Francisco-based company said it had net income of 62 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and asset impairment costs, came to 77 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 68 cents per share.

The seller of cookware and home furnishings posted revenue of $1.28 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.26 billion.

For the current quarter ending in November, Williams-Sonoma expects its per-share earnings to range from 90 cents to 95 cents.

The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.26 to $4.36 per share.

Williams-Sonoma shares have climbed 21 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $62.62, a climb of 46 percent in the last 12 months.
